Barbra Streisand opened her announcement of the best director winner with the words, “The time has come”. Kathryn Bigelow had won for best director-she was the first woman to win the award-and Barbra-a director herself-knew it was about time for this historic event.

Anytime, you are a woman who competes  in a male dominated field-as movie directing is today-you need mental toughness. Kathryn has mentioned she has never played the victim, only the role of the struggling artist. That may be true, except, to commit to your craft, as she has done for so many years, you need mental toughness. She believed in herself-a key component to mental toughness. Confidence is key with mental toughness!

We must believe we are competent-then it will not matter who we compete against.
